My name is Hiroto Hayashi, it's nice to meet you!

In an effort to delve into the natural world, I write and take photos of the things I experience and the people that I meet. I believe that the key to inspiring people to try any outdoor pursuit or nature-based skill is to provide them with experience. That experience can be explicit--by teaching someone to fish for the first time--or vicarious--by writing stories and taking pictures that entertain, educate, and inspire.

The goal of the work that I do is to make a lasting impression on someone. Hopefully, the experience becomes a part of their personal story; the reasons why they climb mountains, fish in their waters, or cook food that came straight from the source.

One form of recreation that has been an important guide throughout my life is fishing. Whether it be boat, ice, spin, bait, lure, or fly; fishing is my way of engaging with the outdoors. Outdoor recreation is a holistic way to create lasting, positive change in individuals that will echo out into communities around the world. By engaging closely with this foundation, we can all achieve holistic health in our lives, in our communities, and in the world.

The thing about outdoor and nature-based activities is the fact that they tie in together like a network of roots below a tree. A professor of mine once said, "Dabbling in a little of everything will result in a multiplication of applicability in other areas of your life." Fishing provides a different breadth of experience than breaking bread and many people are drawn to one thing or another. But by dabbling, we become a jack-of-all-trades in the best activities the world has to offer.

Thank you for stopping by and taking a look at the ways I try to tell these stories and help people tell theirs. Please feel free to contact me with ANY questions you might have. I look forward to talking with you!
